Having recently hosted our AKF Scalability Conference, we're often asked for other conferences we've found valuable in the past.  

In no particular order, we've found the following to be valuable:

• Microsoft Build (particularly for Microsoft shops)
• Defcon
• Blackhat
• Velocity  (perhaps our favorite)
• AWS re:invent
